From the recording Danny Gruff
Welsh singer songwriter Danny Gruff was brought up in a small town in North Wales, taking up music after his brother taken up the guitar. Heavily influenced by his brother’s listening habits of 60’s music, such as the Kinks and The Beatles, Danny started to write songs and perform live. Since then, Danny has moved to London and plays an average of 200 gigs a year (281 in 2016), and has played with artists such as McFly, Bastille, Frank Turner, James Bourne (Busted), Charlie Simpson, The King Blues and many more. On June 9th, Danny will release his debut album.
The self titled debut album from Danny Gruff is the culmination of 10 years of relentless touring and songwriting. At the start of 2016, Danny had just finished his ONTAW project, in which he released one new song a week for the entirety of 2015. 11 months and 3 UK tours later, Danny entered the studio with producer, Andy Hawkins, to start work on his debut album.
The premise for the album was to create something bigger and bolder than his previous releases. Following on from tours with some well established acts, Danny has built a large and loyal fan base which helped him fund the album. Songs such as ‘Comfortable’ and ‘After the Storm’ draw influence from classic songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, whereas there are more unconventional influences heard in the songs ‘Pieces’ and ‘Share the Same Skies’. This album forms a perfect blend between Rock and Electronic influences and style, which is how Danny has managed to craft his own style of songwriting.
Prior to this release, Danny embarked on a 2 week tour of mainland Europe, which included gigs in Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy. In July, Danny will celebrate 2 years since his first headline tour with another headline tour. This is a 7 date across the UK and some of the shows have already sold out and others are well on their way. Joining Danny will be The Candle Thieves and Dave Giles who feature on the album.
